Holiday Swag Clue #2
Skill Level: Easy to Intermediate
US Terminology
Colors:

While this can be done in 1 color, I recommend at least 2. Because row 4 has a peek-a-boo effect with row 5 showing behind it.

I used 4 colors with a repeat of color 1 for the medallions because I have white walls.

Color 1: Gold
Color 2: Cranberry
Color 3: White
Color 4: Frosty Green
Medallion: Gold

Materials

As I said, you can use crochet thread, sport, dk or worsted weight yarn. And what ever appropriate hook size you want as long as it is suitable for your yarn. I would not recommend chunky or bulky yarn for this project though.

I used:
Worsted Weight Yarn in a variety of brands. *decent size left overs from my stash*
A 4 mm/G hook

The following stitches are used in this pattern:

Stitches Used Abbreviation
Chain stitch - ch
Chain Space - ch sp
Single Crochet - sc
Half Double Crochet - hdc
Double Crochet - dc
Treble (triple) Crochet - tr
Double Treble/Triple Crochet - dbtr
5 Double Crochet Popcorn Stitch - 5dcpc
Front Loop Only - FLO
Back Loop Only - BLO
Picot - pic
Triple Picot Cluster - 3piccl
Slip Stitch ss

Pattern Note:

* Unless otherwise noted; chain 1 or other turning chain counts do not count as your first stitch .

* This project is worked from the top to the bottom. So you will always be looking at it upside down. Rotate it to get a view of what it will look like when it is hanging.

Row 3: Color 2 Working in the BLO
If you haven't already done so change to color 2, chain 3 (counts as your first st) and turn.
Beginning Pattern Set: Dc into the next 9 stitches (blo), 5 dcpc (see special stitches) into the ch 2 space. Taking care to catch the first stitch after the popcorn stitch which could be a little bit hidden by the popcorn. Dc in the blo of the next 10 stitches.
Repeating Pattern Set: *Dc into the blo of the next 10 stitches, 5 dcpc into the ch 2 space, dc in the blo of the next 10 stitches* . Repeat * to * as needed to complete your row. Ch 1 and turn
Row 4: Work in BLO
Beginning Pattern Set: Sc in the same as the turning chain in the blo, * Ch 3, skip the next stitch, sc in the blo of the next st.* Repeat * to * 5 times. Ending at the very last stitch before the popcorn. Note: this is a little bit of a fudge as there really isn't a stitch available there. Ch 8 and sc in the blo of the stitch immediately after the popcorn. Note this stitch might be a bit tight and hard to see. Repeat * to * 5 times
Repeating Pattern Set: (Working in the blo), Sc in the next stitch. *ch 3, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next stitch.* Repeat * to star* for a total of 5times. Ending at the very last stitch before the popcorn stitch. Ch 8, sc in the blo of the stitch immediately after the popcorn. *Ch 3, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next stitch. Repeat * to * for a total of 5 times.

This is what it looks like after you turn it.
This is how it looks when it's in use
There's more to come. But I wanted to mention that this is also a good ending point if you need or want something narrower. The chain 8 makes a good place to put medallions, babbles or pompom and tassels.

Are you moving right along? I know some of you are!

Clue 3 starts with Color 3 and a chain 3 if you want to get it ready.
