Welcome to the CAL!

December 13, 2020

With Christmas right around the corner this is a quick design that you can add to you holiday home décor. But really with a few color changes and some other thought out ideas, you could use this and design something for any holiday of the year. Or even something for every day use to match your personal home décor.

This pattern is free on my website. A full version will be available at 6:00 PM ETS for purchase on December 15th. You can purchase the full version on Ravelry for 1/2 price during the month of December in 2020 here: DianeGibbDesigns

A quick and easy project that is fully customizable to suit your needs. Whether you needed something to cover a large space or small. You can essentially have a finished piece by the weekend as the CAL takes place over only 4 days.

One clue will be released every day at 12:00 am EST (Eastern Standard Time).

The pattern consists of a "set" of pattern stitches (20 total) that can be repeated as many times as you like to achieve the desired size.

The pattern has 6 crocheted rows and a medallion (which is optional). The medallion can also be easily switched out with other small crochet motifs and/or appliques for other occasions or holidays. Ready made ornaments can also be substituted in their place. Especially if you are pressed for time with holidays preparations possibly well under way right now.

The pattern is versatile enough that it can be made in any weight yarn or crochet thread with the appropriate hook size for that weight. Gauge is not important for this project as it can be easily customized for your needs.

Naturally if you are using crochet thread, you would probably have to make more repeats of the base pattern to achieve a longer length. But I don't know, maybe you just want to dress up a plain basket or some other item and not use it as wall décor.  It's entirely possible.

While you are waiting for the CAL to begin, start thinking about your color selections and determine how long (as in across) you would like your swag to be. Is it going to hang straight across on a wall, over a doorway or window? Or will it have some dips where you might want to add a bit more to account for those curves?

So let's get started with some details, shall we?

Skill Level: Easy

US Terminology

With the possibility of varying materials requirements and time frames possibly due to how large or how small you want your finished piece to be; I am going to provide you with my results for what I used. That way you have something to go on.

Colors:  I used 4 colors:

Color 1:   Gold

Color 2:  Cranberry

Color 3:  White

Color 4:  Frosty Green

Medallion: Gold

Materials

As I said, you can use crochet thread, sport, dk or worsted weight yarn. And what ever appropriate hook size you want as long as it is suitable for your yarn. I would not recommend chunky or bulky yarn for this project though.

I used:

Worsted Weight Yarn in a variety of brands. *decent size left overs from my stash*

A 4 mm/G hook

For the base portion of the swag I used:

200 yards total (split between 4 colors*)

3 oz of worsted weight yarn

* Individual rows will take different amounts due to stitch content of each row.

Medallions:

I made 13

Each medallion used .1 oz. (6 yards)

Other Supplies

Tassels or Pom Poms (instructions in clue #4 if you need them)

NOTE: If you were early looking at Clue #2, I found an error in the charts for Row 4; that I have since then corrected. The written instructions were correct, but the chart showed too many single crochets with no skipped stitches.

Okay then - Let's have some fun!

I can't wait to see what your version looks like!
